Lorraine Guddemi is a visual artist who works in porcelain and mixed media. She graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 2007 with a First Class (Hons) Degree in the Applied Arts.
I have always had a fascination for ‘powerful’ objects that somehow transcend their materiality. This quality is often found in ancient and tribal artefacts that cross thresholds into the realms of the magical and disclose the identity and beliefs of the people who made them.
Pattern is an integral part of my sculptural forms and has been used throughout civilisation to symbolically represent every aspect of human experience.
Using found imagery from museums, books and nature itself, I try to translate these inspirational materials into my own personal experience.
In this private and intuitive act of making I build elaborate time consuming sculptures that hope to engage people in a moment of wonderment.
